Barclay Goodrow allegedly betrayed by Rangers GM Chris Drury
Following the player's return to the San Jose Sharks, a source revealed that former Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow feels betrayed by GM Chris Drury.
Barclay Goodrow began his NHL journey with the San Jose Sharks, establishing himself as a key forward for the team. Upon learning of his trade to the Tampa Bay Lightning, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff and fans who supported him throughout his time there.
"First off, I'd like to thank the San Jose Sharks for giving me a chance to live out my dream. I signed my first contract 6 years ago and what a journey it's been. Thak you to the medical, training, equipment and PR staff for always being first class and helping me out. Thank you to the fans of San Jose for always being there, you and the city will always hold a special place in my heart. And to the boys, thank you for all the memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. I loved going to war with you guys.:
However, following shorter stints with the Tampa Bay Lightning and subsequently the New York Rangers, Goodrow will return to San Jose once more. The Sharks claimed the veteran forward off waivers, making him one of their three highest-paid forwards on the team.
"The #SJSharks have claimed Barclay Goodrow off waivers from #NYR, bringing the veteran forward back to the place he started his NHL career."
However, what many anticipated as a joyous reunion for Goodrow, based on his 2020 comments, has turned into a bitter return. According to Larry Brooks, a source close to the situation, the veteran forward felt betrayed by the move. The San Jose Sharks were on Goodrow's no-trade list, but Rangers general manager Chris Drury circumvented this by placing him on waivers.
"'There is widespread belief that Barclay Goodrow had #SJSharks on his 15-team no-trade list that #NYR GM Chris Drury got around by placing him on waivers, where San Jose claimed him.
We've been told by several folks Goodrow is not happy about how this went down.' | @NYP_Brooksie"
It's unclear whether Rangers GM Chris Drury intentionally aimed to send him back to his first NHL team. Nevertheless, Barclay Goodrow can anticipate a warm welcome back to the San Jose Sharks, whether he desires to return or not.
