The Buffalo Sabres have made some very intriguing decisions as of late, and now, the team have waived former Cup winner Nicolas Aube-Kubel after a poor start to the 2024/25 campaign with the team.

This season has been a disaster thus far for the Buffalo Sabres, with the team once again falling to last place in the Atlantic Division as their Stanley Cup Playoff hopes are all but over before the trade deadline once more.

The team are reportedly pushing to land Elias Pettersson to turn things around, but in the meantime, they've made a very intriguing roster decision, as they placed a former Stanley Cup winner on waivers on Monday.

As first reported by Elliotte Friedman, the team have waived Nicolas Aube-Kubel, who has played in 19 games with the team this season, tallying just 1 goal and 2 assists over that time as he struggled to find the best role in Buffalo.

The 28-year old has now played for five teams throughout his NHL career, but after winning a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, he's failed to recapture that individual and team success since.

At 28-years of age however, he's still got plenty left in the tank, and with many contending teams out there needing veteran experience in their bottom-six, there's a chance that there will be plenty of opportunities and teams interested in him over the next 24 hours.

With a career high of 22 points representing the only time Aube-Kubel has passed 20 points in a single season, it's unclear exactly what he can be at the NHL level, given that he's rarely been given an extended role to produce, but with 301 games of NHL experience under his belt, don't be surprised to see him claimed on waivers.
