The Chicago Blackhawks have one of the brightest young stars in the NHL, but around him, they've failed to put any elite level NHL talents to help him continue to grow.
Now, that may all be changing according to Scott Powers and Mark Lazerus of The Athletic, who have noted that the Blackhawks will be in play for the two top stars on the free agent market in the summer.
It's highly unlikely that Chicago could land both players, as they'll likely be asking upwards of $13-14 million per season on their next deal, but with the team having upwards of $30 million in salary cap space, there's an opportunity to land several top names in free agency.
On top of these two names, the likes of John Tavares, Brent Burns, Ivan Provorov and Brock Boeser will all be free agents as well, and with former No. 2 overall pick Artyom Levshunov likely to make the NHL leap as well, this team could improve mightily ahead of the 2025/26 season.
With Kyle Davidson leading the ship, it's unclear what the plan is in Chicago, as they've already wasted two years of Bedard, and if they can't turn things around soon by putting superstars around him to genuinely make a push at the Stanley Cup Playoffs, they may lose a franchise cornerstone.
