It is no secret that Elias Pettersson has not lived up to expectations in Vancouver this season.
One year removed from an 89-point season, and just two years removed from a 102-point campaign, the 26-year-old has just 33 points in 45 games this season.
There has been much speculation as to why this is, with many fans pointing to his feud with JT Miller as a big reason why he has struggled on the ice.
After all, Pettersson's most productive stretch of the season came when Miller took a leave of absence from the team.
Similarly, Pettersson performed well in the Canucks' first game after the Miller trade, registering an assist in the 5-3 loss to the Dallas Stars.
One game is obviously not an adequate sample size, but it should be interesting to keep track of his production post-trade.
Canucks management will certainly be keeping a close eye on him as everyone in the front office including Patrik Allvin is not happy with his play this year.
As the Athletic's Thomas Drance points out, Pettersson has a full no-move-clause in his contract that kicks in on July 1st this year.
As a result, the team may very well move him at or around the draft if his play does not improve down the stretch.
Otherwise they would be committed to the rest of his contract, which right now is not looking like a great deal.
If the Canucks do end up moving Pettersson though, it would be a pretty bad look for the team.
After all, teams typically do not trade two of their best players within a few months of each other if things are going well.
