Pittsburgh Penguins Announce Roster Transaction Involving Evgeni Malkin
The Pittsburgh Penguins have been dealing with some injury issues as of late, and now, the team have made an official call on star forward Evgeni Malkin as he will now be headed to the Injured reserve as the team simply can't seem to catch a break.
The 2024/25 season hasn't gone the way anyone in Pittsburgh hoped or expected, as the team now sit in last place in the Metropolitan Division, despite less than 10 points separating them from the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Now, they've been forced into a roster move that could hurt their chances of turning around their season in a big way, with the team now officially announcing that veteran star Evgeni Malkin has been placed on Injured Reserve.
In his place, the team have recalled Jesse Puljujarvi from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins after the 26-year old played in 25 games with the team earlier this season before being demoted to the AHL.
Malkin has played in 47 games this season, and in that time he's tallied 9 goals and 34 points, and although he's put together a -19 differential during that stretch, he remains one of the most important pieces of this Penguins team.
While the team haven't confirmed what the injury is yet, Malkin did have an awkward collision with veteran Chandler Stephenson during the Penguins latest clash with the Seattle Kraken, and it could lead to an extended absence.
As of right now however, we are awaiting the full details on the Injured Reserve stint that Malkin has upcoming, so while we know he will miss at least a few games while the team attempt to turn things around, it's unclear just how long the 39-year old star will be out of action.
