St. Louis Blues Place Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion on Waivers
The St. Louis have made a rather shocking move today as they are placing a two-time Stanley Cup champion on waivers, as they look to make roster changes.
The St. Louis Blues will be placing a veteran winger and two-time Stanley Cup champion on waivers today, general manager Doug Armstrong announced.
Brandon Saad, 32, has seven goals and 16 points in 43 games this season and remains signed through next season with a cap hit of $4.5 million.
A two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad was listed on the first TSN Trade Bait board earlier this month, as it was expected he would be traded by the team. This placement on waivers is rather shocking.
The Blues have come up short in trades
NHL insider David Pagnotta of 'The Fourth Period' provided some clarity as to the reason that Saad was placed on waivers.
It appears that due to the team being unsuccessful in trading Saad, they have opted to place him on waivers instead.
Saad scored 26 goals and 42 points in 82 games last season. Over the course of his 906 career games, Saad has 260 goals and 515 points.
Waiving Saad comes as he is stuck in a six-game point drought and nine-game goal drought. He saw 11:58 of ice time in Monday's 5-2 blowout loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
The Blues enter play Tuesday sitting just five points back of the Calgary Flames for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference with three more games played.
