Dylan Larkin, the captain of the Detroit Red Wings, let his rage get the better of him tonight by taking a crude shot to the head of Chicago Blackhawks AJ Spellacy.
The Chicago Blackhawks selected AJ Spellacy in the third round of the NHL entry draft in 2024. His past as a Division I football recruit, which gave him incredibly advanced physical skills, makes him a very special prospect. He has a great ability to avoid pressure and deflect blows away from opponents.
Lucas Raymond, the team's star player who recently inked an eight-year, $64.6 million contract, took a huge hit from Spellacy during tonight's preseason game against the Detroit Red Wings.
The Detroit Red Wings have a talented core taking shape, one they feel will help them return to being a consistent Stanley Cup contender. And on Monday night, the Red Wings made certain that Lucas Raymond remains part of that process by re-signing the 22-year-old forward to an eight-year contract extension.
Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond were both seeking retribution on the young forward for the hit. AJ Spellacy was first slashed by Lucas Raymond. Then, Dylan Larkin gave AJ Spellacy a hard elbow to the head as the puck entered the zone.
Dylan Larkin was obviously just looking to exact revenge on AJ Spellacy for the previous play, and the puck was nowhere near the play. A 2024 third-round selection by the Chicago Blackhawks, AJ Spellacy was experiencing his first taste of NHL competition. Even after the puck was gone, Dylan Larkin made the deliberate effort to shoot AJ Spellacy in the head.
