The possibility of the Canadiens trading Logan Mailloux was the subject of an intriguing conversation between journalist Mathias Brunet and his colleague Simon Boisvert.

The two experts discussed on their podcast the potential for Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes to utilize Mailloux as a trade asset. The guys make a comparison between that circumstance and that of Alexander Romanov, a young defenseman who the Canadiens traded despite his potential.
They continued by talking about Mailloux's enormous market value. Then, journalist Simon Boisvert revealed that he believes Mailloux will play for Montreal for a very long time. He might still be able to move, though, just like Romanov did. Boisvert believes that despite Mailloux's potential as a player, he may end up being more valuable as a trade chip.
"A number of indications had shown Romanov would leave well before the actual trade," Mathias Brunet concluded, "and the same can occur in Mailloux's situation once a suitable deal comes up."

Thus, he reiterated that the Calgary Flames seemed to be the front-runners due to their abundance of prospects, and the Canadiens might potentially deal him for other assets.
"I have the feeling that Mailloux could be used as a trade chip.

You know, a team like Calgary (...) that likes this type of defenseman."

- Mathias Brunet
Of course, at this stage, the idea of trading off Mailloux is just a rumor, but it's something to keep an eye on. That trade might have been worth a good amount of money-possibly more than Justin Barron, another young right-handed defenseman. On the other hand, some people think Mailloux should be given the chance to develop first and the Canadiens should be patient.
Given Logan Mailloux's high value, should the Canadiens trade him or hold onto him?
