San Jose Sharks Trade Former 1st Round Pick Star Forward Mikael Granlund
The San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars are on the verge of completing a trade per Kevin Weekes, which will see a former 1st-rounder heading to the Stars.
Earlier today, the Stars made several roster moves geared toward setting up and optimizing their LTIR pool.
Dallas Stars to acquire Mikael Granlund from the San Jose Sharks
It appears they may be putting some of that money to use sooner rather than later as ESPN's Kevin Weekes reports that the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks are working on a trade that would see Dallas acquire center Mikael Granlund from the Sharks. It also appears that Cody Ceci is part of this trade.
There hasn't been an official trade call as of yet, but it is being worked on.
The Stars have been missing a key centerman for the last two months when Tyler Seguin underwent hip surgery that is expected to keep him out for the rest of the season.
They've been trying to fill that spot internally with Jamie Benn spending some time down the middle while Sam Steel has been promoted to the third line at times as well.
There has been a general expectation that the Stars would need to look outside their organization to fill that spot at some point, which is likely what this trade is all about.
Granlund will certainly help fill this void for the Stars. The 32-year-old had a fantastic season last year in his first campaign with San Jose, recording 12 goals and 48 assists in just 69 games.
Granlund has shown that the improvement last season wasn't a fluke as he has 15 goals and 30 assists through 52 games this season, putting him on pace for 69 points. This would tie his career-high that he set back in 2016-17.
