J.T. Miller gave the Vancouver Canucks the two points in overtime against the Florida Panthers on Thursday night, putting them in the win column after a 0-1-2 start to the season.
The Canucks and Panthers got into a scrum almost halfway through the second period. Uvis Balinskis of the Panthers grabbed Teddy Blueger as he tried to join the scrum, and the two of them dropped gloves right away.
Funny enough, Teddy Blueger made some NHL history by dropping the mitts. Sportsnet Stats reports that Uvis Balinskis, a blueliner for the Panthers and the Canucks forward, took part in the first-ever brawl between two Latvian players.
You can watch the historical fight here:
Teddy Blueger and Uvis Balinskis have played together at three IIHF World Hockey Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019, so they are fairly familiar with one another.
Balinskis and Blueger got together for a hug and a conversation after the game. It won't be the last time we witness friends and former teammates drop the mitts, as emotions can sometimes overcome players on the ice as both teams fight for the two points.
In addition to his altercation, Blueger was very productive for the Canucks, scoring their first goal of the evening and on his lone attempt of the game. He also finished with three hits and a 45.5 faceoff percentage, which they hope will slightly increase on Saturday.
