As the deadline inches closer, one of the New York Islanders players will likely become one of the most popular centers on the trade block.
Though his offense has cooled a bit this season, the 33-year-old is coming off three consecutive 30-goal seasons, so he'll be in high demand should the New York Islanders decide to deal him.
Turns out, a number of contending teams are in the market for a skilled center, upping Brock Nelson's potential trade value even further.
According to 'Daily Faceoff' contributor Frank Seravalli, the Islanders should get a package for Nelson similar to what the Calgary Flames got for Elias Lindholm last year, or what the Vancouver Canucks received for Bo Horvat.
In both instances, a first-round pick was part of the compensation with quality players/prospects.
Seravalli listed five teams as great fits for Nelson, with the Winnipeg Jets being one of the front-runners. Ever since losing Sean Monahan to free agency, the Jets find themselves once again in need of depth up the middle.
If they want to remain high up in the standings like they are now, Nelson would certainly be a player to help them do just that, as well as likely lead them in a deep playoff run as well.
The New Jersey Devils obviously need a center but probably aren't willing to fork over the cash for Nelson's $6 million cap hit.
The Minnesota Wild need to add a high-end scorer they can sign long-term, and Minnesota-born Nelson could fit like a glove.
The Boston Bruins are 26th in the NHL in goals scored per game and need an influx of offense, but their cap situation makes it incredibly hard to make a trade.
Finally, the Carolina Hurricanes love to make the big splashes on trade deadline day and have been linked earlier to the Vancouver Canucks' J.T. Miller. If things fall through on that front, Nelson could be a very viable Plan B.
With a few contenders involved one way or another, Nelson will be a big piece moving forward because of his veteran presence and established scoring.
