On Monday, a call-up from AHL Abbotsford was done to reinforce the Canucks' blue line.
Mark Friedman returns to the NHL after being assigned to the AHL in mid-December while Noah Juulsen, nursing an undisclosed injury, remains in an indefinite status.
Friedman, who was originally signed by Pittsburgh in 2022 to a two-year, $1.55 million contract, was traded to Vancouver last season along with Ty Glover in a deal that sent Jack Rathbone and Karel Plasek back to Pittsburgh.
The 29-year-old provided the Canucks with reliable depth during his time with the team, appearing in 26 games with one assist, 16 shots, and a plus-two rating in 12:14 average ice time.
In his six-year NHL career, Friedman has played 91 games, totaling 13 points and a plus-15 rating in 13:06 average ice time.
The last offseason, Friedman got an extension with the Canucks, a one-year, $775,000 contract.
He is, as they say, earning his keep, and if you are a fan, you should want him to keep doing that because he has all the personality traits that make a player easy to root for.
During a press conference halfway through the season, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin commented on trade rumors. He did not get into specifics but confirmed that he will consider making trades that "make sense."
As for the players, Allvin said that he admires how well they handle the constant speculation and that he almost feels a little bad for them because of all the ongoing rumors.
Fans and analysts alike will be keeping a very close watch on Allvin's next moves as the trade deadline nears.
