Elliotte Friedman provided a bit of an update on Vancouver Canucks forward JT Miller from his '32 Thoughts' podcast Monday.
It would appear the New York Rangers interest in taking back Miller is still persistent, a rumor that extends all the way back to two years ago when the Canucks were debating trading either him or Bo Horvat. However, a recent trade to them failed.
They kept Miller and traded Horvat to the Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a 2023 first-round pick. That has since been sent to Detroit for Filip Hronek.
Drafted 15th overall by the Rangers in 2011, Miller played six seasons in New York, scoring 72 goals and 100 assists in 341 games.
He was later traded to Tampa Bay with Ryan McDonagh and eventually joined the Canucks in 2019 in exchange for Marek Mazanec, a 2020 first-round pick, and a 2019 third-round pick.
This season, he has 31 points (8 goals, 23 assists) in 35 games but has gone ice cold of late, going pointless in five straight games with a minus-five rating up until his most recent two-point outing against the Oilers.
Off the ice, he has had some personal struggles as he missed 10 games due to a leave of absence after a career-high 100-point season. According to Donnie & Dhali's Rick Dhaliwal, neither Miller nor his representatives have asked for a trade.
With the trade deadline just around the corner on March 7th, though, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin will have to make a decision on Miller's future. He has a full no-movement clause, so any trade must be approved by him.
If rumors are true, Miller may be playing his last few games with the Canucks, or may have already done so.
