Calgary Flames forward Nazem Kadri has been at the center of trade speculation as the team undergoes a rebuild, raising the possibility of his return to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Are the Leafs finished making moves for the summer? With August approaching, it seems unlikely that a trade involving Mitch Marner is in the cards. However, it's unclear if Brad Treliving is completely content with the current roster.
The Leafs could benefit from adding another prominent player, potentially one with whom they're already familiar. Could Nazem Kadri be a fit? Let's examine the proposed trade:
Maple Leafs receive:

Nazem Kadri (with $3.5 million retained)
2025 fifth-round pick
2026 sixth-round pick

Flames receive:

David Kampf
Nick Robertson
Ryan Reaves
2025 second-round pick

This trade seems somewhat favorable to the Leafs. They would acquire Kadri for four more seasons at a $3.5 million cap hit, which could alleviate concerns about his age.
In return, the Flames would get a depth forward in David Kampf, a B-level prospect in Nick Robertson, a second-round pick, and effectively a cap dump in Ryan Reaves. Whether this package would be enough to convince the Flames to trade Kadri remains uncertain.
Adding complexity to this deal is Kadri's full no-trade clause for the next two seasons. He would need to waive it for the trade to proceed. As he mentioned in his exit interview, he enjoys playing in Calgary, adding another layer of difficulty to the negotiation.
«It's a terrific place to play. I've enjoyed my time here.»

Nazem Kadri speaks with the media about his play this season, the team growing together and more.
The trade speculation is based on the assumption that Kadri might seek a change of scenery if the Flames are not competitive. By the trade deadline, Kadri could potentially request a move to a more promising situation, especially if Calgary is not making a playoff push.
"Come February, and this is a season and a half where you aren't playing meaningful games, maybe Kadri does just ask politely to move to a better situation? But all indications right now are that he likes being a Calgary Flame."
Could this trade happen? It's possible, but given the nature of the NHL, it remains uncertain.
