According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, free agent forward Brandon Saad is set to sign with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Earlier this week, the St. Louis Blues made headlines when the team placed veteran forward Brandon Saad on waivers.

This was not a typical waiver placement either. Instead of going on waivers to be demoted to the AHL, he was placed on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract with the club entirely.

Of course, this made Saad a free agent, capable of signing with any team in the NHL should he choose to do so.

Furthermore, this gave him the opportunity to sign at a much lower price, making him a lot more intriguing to Stanley Cup contenders.

Now it appears as though one contender has eagerly taken this opportunity to add a two-time Stanley Cup winner to their roster ahead of the playoffs.

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the Vegas Golden Knights are negotiating with Saad today and are expected to sign the 32-year-old later today.

Fellow NHL insider Elliotte Friedman followed up this report by adding that he believes the deal will be for just the remainder of the season and will carry a 1.5 million dollar cap hit.

Saad has appeared in 906 career regular-season NHL games and has 260 goals and 515 points.

He has also appeared in 103 career playoff games, scoring 27 goals and 53 points in the postseason.

He won the Stanley Cup in 2013 and again in 2015 with the Chicago Blackhawks.
