Former Maple Leafs players announce new jersey numbers with Buffalo Sabres
Three ex-Toronto Maple Leafs players have signed with the Buffalo Sabres and revealed their new jersey numbers for the upcoming season.
James Reimer, Sam Lafferty, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel have each joined the Sabres this off-season and have disclosed the numbers they will wear.
G James Reimer will sport jersey number 47 for the Buffalo Sabres, a number last worn by Malcolm Subban in the 2021-22 season. #LetsGoBuffalo
F Sam Lafferty will wear jersey number 81 for the Buffalo Sabres. This number was previously worn by Brett Murray in the 2023-24 season. #LetsGoBuffalo F Nicolas Aube-Kubel will don jersey number 96 for the Buffalo Sabres. This number was last worn by Anders Bjork in the 2021-22 season. #LetsGoBuffalo
Aube-Kubel, who played just six games for the Leafs in the 2022-23 season before being claimed off waivers by the Washington Capitals, will now wear number 96 in Buffalo.
Lafferty, a bottom-six forward with the Leafs during the same 2022-23 season, was later traded to Chicago for defenseman Jake McCabe. He will wear number 81 for the Sabres.
James Reimer, who was a fourth-round pick by the Leafs in 2006 and had a solid five-season run starting in 2010, will wear number 47. Reimer started over 200 games for Toronto.
