Speculation and trade rumors are heating up in the NHL with the 2025 NHL trade deadline less than two months away. There are obviously some big moves expected in the weeks to come, but today, a rather minor trade did happen.
A small trade has been made between two divisional rivals, the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks, as a former second-round pick was sent packing.
According to a report from The Athletic's Eric Stephens, the San Jose Sharks are sending former second-round pick Justin Bailey to the Ducks, and in return, they will be getting 25-year-old winger Pavol Regenda back.
Bailey, 29, has spent the 2024-25 season with the AHL's San Jose Barracuda, having scored seven goals with 14 points in 33 games. He played in 59 games for the San Jose Sharks last season, scoring five goals with nine assists.
He was drafted in the second round, with the 52nd overall pick, by the Buffalo Sabres in 2013. He is on a one-year, $800,000 deal that will expire this summer. It is expected that Bailey will report to the AHL's San Diego Gulls.
Regenda, 25, had four goals and 16 points in 36 games with the San Diego Gulls this season. He appeared in 19 career NHL games in his career, scoring one goal with two assists, all with the Anaheim Ducks. He, too, is on a one-year, $775,000 contract.
