Even though the new NHL season is not even three weeks old, the form of some teams early in the year can give us huge indications as to how things are going to go, and when teams figure that out, they can then make their plans for the trade deadline. While some teams will take longer to decide their fate, according to Joe Yerdon, there are three veteran forwards that are preparing to hit the trade block at some point this season.
Out of these three, Taylor Hall makes the most sense given that the Blackhawks team are not going anywhere this season, and if he continues to stay healthy, the former Hart Trophy winner could be a great middle-six winger for a contending team. The other two are more intriguing however, as Giroux is playing for a 4-2-0 Ottawa Senators team while putting up five points in six games thus far, but Yerdon predicts that if this hot start doesn't continue, Giroux will become a top trade chip for the team.
Finally is Patrick Kane, who returned to Detroit as a free agent this off-season, but with struggles in net thus far, this team looks to be far from a Stanley Cup Playoffs lock, and it may lead to them looking to get some type of value out of Kane when they can.
As of right now, it's likely too early to tell on both Giroux and Kane, with both of their teams pushing for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but given the circumstances surrounding them in the brutal Eastern Conference, expect all of their names to remain in the rumour mill all season long.
