Due to a lower-body injury that has already prevented him from playing in the last two games, top-six forward Victor Olofsson of the Vegas Golden Knights will be out for a considerable amount of time.
Olofsson sustained an injury during the Washington Capitals game last Tuesday. Early in the third period, the Swedish winger collided with the boards and needed assistance from teammates to get off the ice. In the Golden Knights' 4-2 defeat, Olofsson scored his third goal of the year. Cassidy informed reporters that Olofsson's injury "didn't look good" following the game.
Olofsson and the Golden Knights are going through a particularly difficult time because he had a fantastic start with his new team and far outperformed the one-year, $1.075 million free agent contract he signed with them this past summer.
In the 2014 NHL Draft, Olofsson was initially selected by the Sabres in the seventh round, 181st overall. He would make his team debut in 2018-19, but he made an impression in his rookie season the following year, scoring 20 goals and 42 points in the season that was cut short due to COVID. Prior to difficulties that resulted in him being a healthy scratch for many games last season, he had consecutive seasons with 20 goals+. Olofsson had his lowest point output of his career in 2023-24, scoring only 15 points in 51 games.
