Due to unexpected issues with the Swedish team, American goaltender Joey Slavick had to step in for a different country during the World Junior Summer Showcase.

After the conclusion of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs, hockey fans were eager for some live action. Their wishes have been fulfilled with the start of the World Junior Summer Showcase.

However, Sweden's team experienced a goaltending crisis and had to call in an emergency backup. That backup was 17-year-old Joey Slavick from the United States.

Despite the opportunity to showcase his skills for another country, Slavick couldn't prevent the loss, and USA Blue defeated Sweden with a final score of 7-2. Although it wasn't the result Sweden hoped for, they will likely appreciate Slavick's efforts. They will aim to return their regular goaltender to avoid a similar defeat in the future.
"WJSS final score: Sweden was defeated by USA Blue 2-7. Lucas Pettersson ended the game scoreless."
