Alex Ovechkin endures terrible injury during hockey game in Russia
Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was injured during a high-profile hockey game in Russia known as the "Match of the Year."
An all-star game in Russia showcased the top Russian NHL players against the best KHL players. Reports indicate that Ovechkin had to leave Sergei Mozyakin's farewell game due to a knee injury.
The good news is that the knee injury doesn't seem too severe, and Ovechkin is expected to miss about a week of training. Nonetheless, his coach and fans are concerned, which led to his removal from a game that wasn't expected to be physically intense.
"This injury is not too serious and did not prevent Ovechkin from playing in the Game of the Year a week ago," said a source from Match TV.
"But now Alexander has decided to take care of himself so that he can begin full training in 10 days."
Considering the circumstances, 10 days of rest isn't too concerning, and Ovechkin should be prepared for training camp in about eight weeks.
Last season, Alex Ovechkin ended with 31 goals and 34 assists in 79 games with the Washington Capitals. He is just 41 goals away from equaling Wayne Gretzky's NHL all-time goal record.
