The San Jose Sharks have just claimed a forward off waivers from the Calgary Flames, as reported by TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston.
Walker Duehr was placed on waivers on Tuesday by Calgary. The 27-year-old winger has appeared in 16 NHL games with the Flames this season, recording just one assist while averaging only 8:48 minutes of ice time.
Duehr made his NHL debut a few years ago, suiting up for one game with the Flames in 2021-22, while spending the rest of his time in the AHL with the Stockton Heat.
He began the following season with the Calgary Wranglers, but was called up to the NHL after 41 games and remained with the Flames for the rest of the campaign.
He had a breakout to close that season, scoring seven goals and 11 points while providing a much-needed physical presence on the fourth line. The 6-foot-2 winger impressed the Flames so much during that stretch that he earned a two-year extension.
Duehr also has 11 goals and 19 points in 20 games with the AHL's Calgary Wranglers in the 2024-25 season. He is in the final season of a two-year, $1.65 million contract with an average annual cap hit of $825,000.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Calgary Flames back in 2021, Duehr has nine goals and 19 points in 84 career games.
This claim should give Duehr a solid opportunity, as the Sharks are in a rebuilding stage and will likely give him quite some time to prove himself as an NHL regular. They currently sit dead last in NHL standings with an abysmal 14-30-6 record.
