According to multiple reports, the Pittsburgh Penguins will be placing defenseman Kris Letang on injured reserve and activating fellow defenseman Marcus Pettersson in a corresponding move.
The move comes just a few hours after Letang missed the Penguins practice with what was considered at the time a day-to-day injury by reporters.
While it was initially considered a minor injury clearly Penguins GM Kyle Dubas and the team's medical staff must feel Letang will be out longer term with this injury.
This season overall has been a struggle for Letang as his offensive production has dropped to a career low in points per game with just 16 points in 34 games this season.
It is currently unknown whether the injury that has landed Letang on injured reserve is something he has been battling through or something new that came up in recent games.
Thankfully the Penguins will be at least getting back Marcus Pettersson who had been on injured reserve and missed several games due to his injury but now he will be an option for head coach Mike Sullivan going forward.
Over the next couple of days, all eyes will be on the Penguins as we await further news on Letang's injury and potential return.
Once the Penguins and other sources provide an update on Letang's exact diagnosis and return timetable we will pass along that news to you.
