Patrick Sharp breaks ties with the Blackhawks to join a new NHL team
Having been a long-time member of the Chicago Blackhawks, Patrick Sharp is now reportedly flourishing in his new role with the Philadelphia Flyers.
After a remarkable career with the Blackhawks, Sharp has made an official transition, despite his success in front of the camera. He has gone back to where it all started. According to reports, Sharp's career is prospering as he takes on the role of special advisor to the hockey operations department with the Flyers.
After giving up a blossoming TV career, Patrick Sharp settles into new role with the Flyers
At the age of 42, Sharp is still in superb physical form. Reports from the Flyers' recent development camp indicate he made a considerable impact, especially impressing first-round pick Jett Luchanko.
«It's really cool to see him out here,» Flyers 2024 first-round pick Jett Luchanko said. «Looks like he could still be playing. You can tell he just loves the game.»
His role has now expanded to help the young drafted talent of the Flyers, and according to Sharp himself, it's paying off in more ways than one, as it allows him to not only continue his role in hockey, but also to be home with his family.
«I think (television) was great for me the first three or four years after retiring. It kept me in the game, fed my ego, got a lot of face time,» Sharp said. «But as the years went on, it became less enjoyable. I loved the people I worked with, both with the Hawks and at NBC. It felt like they were a part of a team. But I missed actually wearing a team logo and working with players and being a part of something.»
It remains to be seen if Sharp will improve the Flyers' development, but for the moment, his switch from on-screen announcer to development has been a successful one. He seems content and is thriving in this new role.
