The Vegas Golden Knights haven't offered Jonathan Marchessault a contract yet. Recent comments indicate the 33-year-old's frustrated with their lack of attention.

With the likelihood of Marchessault entering free agency rising daily, it's worth considering which teams might show interest and at what cost.
It appears that Marchessault is keen on staying with the Golden Knights for the upcoming season. Their current salary cap constraints may hinder their ability to keep many of their pending free agents. Given his contributions over the seven seasons in Vegas, he certainly merits a salary increase although it may not come from the Golden Knights.

Montreal Canadiens

The narrative of returning home often influences NHL free agency decisions for veterans. Jonathan Marchessault, born in Cap Rouge, Quebec, has been linked to the Montreal Canadiens due to this connection, whether through genuine interest or mere speculation.
While indications suggest the Canadiens are poised for improvement next season, competing in the tough Atlantic Division offers no guarantee of a playoff spot.
If Marchessault prioritizes ending his career in his hometown or maximizing earnings, Montreal could be an option. However, contending for another Stanley Cup there seems unlikely.
While this scenario may not materialize for Marchessault, it would undoubtedly be captivating. The presence of talented players like Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki, Juraj Slafkovsky, and Lane Hutson on the Canadiens roster promises exciting moments. Introducing Marchessault as a goal scorer could greatly benefit their progress, leading to numerous memorable highlights and giving local fans a player to rally behind.

Detroit Red Wings

Marchessault might consider joining the Detroit Red Wings, who have a history of adding experienced players to boost their offense. With David Perron's performance declining and his impending free agency at 36, the Red Wings will need another top-six winger. Considering their recent signings like Patrick Kane, it's clear they're aiming to bolster their lineup for a Stanley Cup run.

Carolina Hurricanes

With changes underway in the Carolina Hurricanes organization, including parting ways with GM Don Waddell, further transformations are expected this summer, including potential signings like Seth Jarvis, Martin Necas, Brady Skjei, and Brett Pesce. Despite salary cap constraints, Marchessault could likely sign a contract similar to what he'd receive from the Golden Knights. The Hurricanes, competitive for some time now, lack a standout playoff performer like Marchessault, whose goal-scoring ability could give them an edge, especially considering their recent playoff performances.
The Golden Knights have a reputation for making tough decisions when it comes to managing their team. They've shown this by not sacrificing their salary structure to keep players like, Marc Andre Fleury and Reilly Smith. However the decision to let go of their Conn Smythe Trophy winner marks a strict approach.
It's unclear how the rest of the team feels about the lack of communication between management and Marchessaults representatives. Nevertheless Marchessault plays a role in the leadership group and his departure would significantly impact the teams dynamics. Whether he stays or goes Marchessault has already cemented his legacy with the franchise, as a Misfit and Stanley Cup champion. He will always be cherished as a Golden Knight regardless of where his future takes him.
