Despite the issues in the locker room and the injuries that the Vancouver Canucks have dealt with in 2024/25, they still somehow sit 17-10-8 on the year, well within striking distance of the top teams in the Pacific Division.
However, things may now be getting worse, as both Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson are missing practice on Sunday, suggesting that they're in danger of missing the team's next game on Tuesday against the Calgary Flames.
Both men have been dealing with injury issues that became apparent before the holiday break, with both suffering injuries in the last game before Christmas back on December 23.
This combined with the reported issues between Pettersson and J.T. Miller makes this team a very interesting one to watch, as many people are simply expecting them to fall off if they can't get healthy and get on the same page.
With Filip Hronek already out of the lineup due to injury on a very thin Canucks blue line, it's no shock now that they'll potentially look to push for an upgrade defensively, with the team being aggressive a year ago in acquiring veteran talent, and they'll likely do so again in 2024/25.
Without Hughes and Pettersson in the lineup, Vancouver is clearly a much worse team with Pius Suter and Derek Forbort replacing the two, and with the Canucks lofty expectation this season, that simply won't get it done.
We've seen for weeks now that Vancouver are exploring all trade options, with the team being linked to a young Sabres defenseman, and while they may not make something happen soon, even when healthy, expect them to look for some huge upgrades.
