The NHL's March 7 trade deadline is fast approaching, and the Vegas Golden Knights will likely be very active in trying to bolster their roster for success this season and in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Who might they add? Here are three possible targets:

Ivan Provorov, D, Columbus Blue Jackets

Set to become a UFA this summer, Ivan Provorov is a possible rental for Vegas. Carrying a $4.725 million cap hit, via PuckPedia, he's affordable with another team retaining salary, especially for a team like the Golden Knights.

Adding Ivan Provorov to an already strong defensive line that got a boost with Noah Hanifin last season could create the best blue line in the NHL for Vegas.

Columbus probably won't ask for marquee names in return. Although Provorov used to carry a big price tag, his price has tempered. A high draft selection or good prospect will get the job done to make him a great depth addition for Vegas.

Michael Carcone isn't a household name, but his upside is intriguing. He has just eight points in 25 games this season, but he did put up 21 goals in 74 games last year.

With a $775,000 cap hit and UFA status looming, he's a cheap depth add for any contender.

Vegas doesn't need star power in every transaction. Michael Carcone's clean sheet in Nevada could make him a useful addition for the playoffs and provide depth to an already solid forward group.

Nikolaj Ehlers, LW, Winnipeg Jets

Nikolaj Ehlers, 28, has 10 goals and 27 points in 27 games despite injuries. His $6 million salary and pending UFA status make him a trade candidate. Vegas could navigate cap challenges, possibly involving a third team to retain salary.

Nikolaj Ehlers' speed and scoring would give Vegas a big boost as a Stanley Cup contender. His experience and desire to join a contender make him a strong fit.
