While the Winnipeg Jets are set up front at the NHL level, they would love to have another injection of youth into their lineup, with some very talented prospects coming through the organization.
Now however, they've officially parted ways with a former top pick, as the team announced on Saturday that Daniel Torgersson, a former second-round draft pick has been waived for the purpose of contract termination.
While Torgersson has great size at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, he just hasn't proven enough at the AHL level yet, with just 32 points in 137 games played at the level not being enough for the Jets to continue believing in him.
This season it's been bad for him, as Torgersson has yet to record a point with the Manitoba Moose in 12 games while compiling a -12 differential, with the team simply growing impatient of the 22-year old's development.
Now that he's on waivers however, every team in the league has an opportunity to add him to their AHL roster and see if he can develop, because with that size he can certainly be an intriguing piece if he can find that spark and the right fit.
Over the years, we've seen many prospects take their time to figure out their game at the next level, and while Torgersson has just one season before being drafted of being effective offensively, he's a solid skater that brings great size.
For now though, we know the Jets have simply grown impatient of his development, and while team's often like to develop players in different ways, it may be that the Jets simply got it wrong here and Torgersson doesn't have a future at the NHL level. Only time will tell.
