The video of this one is probably already being examined by the NHL's Department of Player Safety. After a nasty hit on Vancouver Canucks player Brock Boeser last night, Tanner Jeannot of the LA Kings would be extremely fortunate to avoid suspension.
Tanner Jeannot unexpectedly ran a dirty, late hit that struck Boeser's head and sent him down to the ice as he was gathering the puck off the boards. Boeser remained down for a few minutes to gather himself while the medical personnel hurried to him. Although Boeser's injury appears to be minor, the team will keep an eye on his condition.
Boeser is most likely being evaluated under the concussion protocol, and given the recent announcement regarding CTE, they will not risk having him play through the injury, even if it is not too serious.
Even though Jeannot's play was extremely illegal, Vancouver managed to win the game, and the veteran forward is currently receiving a lot of negative feedback on social media. In the end, this kind of behavior is completely unnecessary in hockey. Jeannot could have made an impact by checking Boeser to the body, but instead he went straight for the head, putting the Canucks forward in danger of missing time. Hopefully, the impending suspension will give him time to reflect on this kind of reprehensible behavior.
