Lucas Johansen, a former first-round pick, has agreed to an AHL contract with the Henderson Silver Knights, the Vegas Golden Knights' AHL affiliate.
The 26-year-old Johansen has played for the Washington Capitals and the Hershey Bears during the last seven seasons. The native of Vancouver, British Columbia, was chosen 28th overall by the Capitals in the 2016 first round draft. Between 2021 and 2024, he played in nine NHL games for Washington, recording two assists and a plus-2 rating.
The 6-foot-2 defenseman played for the Hershey Bears in 2023 and 2024, helping them win the Calder Cup twice in a row. Johansen has recorded 20 goals, 92 points, 82 penalty minutes, and a plus-11 rating in 257 AHL games during his career with Hershey. In the Calder Cup Playoffs, he has also made 41 appearances.
Johansen, The Vancouver native, played in 202 games for the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL from 2014 to 2017, scoring 17 goals and dishing out 98 points. He won a WHL title in 2015 and was an assistant captain from 2016 to 2017.
In an attempt to remain at the former home of his older brother, Ryan Johansen, Lucas signed a professional tryout contract with the Predators in September. But less than two weeks after leaving the NHL camp, he was fired from a quick tryout with the Milwaukee Admirals, their AHL affiliate.
