Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, who hasn't played since 2022, has reportedly suffered a setback that could have a significant impact on his NHL career.

The Colorado Avalanche received a complete shocker for the 2024-25 regular season, as if they needed more bad news regarding injuries. Gabriel Landeskog's attempt to rejoin the NHL has been unsuccessful. Landeskog hasn't played since the Avalanche won the Stanley Cup in 2022.
"From two trusted sources: Landeskog setback was 'significant'. A return at all is in real question. I hope this turns out to be WRONG. He doesn't deserve this."

Jared Bednar, the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche, later tried to minimize the incident by stating that Landeskog's setback is a necessary part of the process and that he is still optimistic that he will be able to return this season.
After having arthroscopic knee surgery, Gabriel Landeskog was originally only expected to miss about 12 weeks of the 2023-24 NHL regular season. After having a knee cartilage transplant, he missed it all. He has skated alone since the procedure, but hasn't even skated with the Colorado Avalanche.
Gabriel Landeskog, who is currently 31 years old, still has time to return to the NHL, but the longer it takes, the less likely it is to happen. The two surgeries were not minor. Valeri Nichushkin's return date following his arrest in Seattle has finally been made public, which is good news for the Colorado Avalanche. Meanwhile, the team recently released a worrying update on the condition of star defenseman Cale Makar, who is coping with an injury. The Colorado Avalanche have had a terrible season in terms of injuries, and they still have a ways to go before they completely emerge from the woods.
