The Vancouver Canucks appear ready to pull the trigger on a J.T. Miller trade, and now it appears talks with the New York Rangers are still ongoing.
Just this past week, details of a trade between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers surrounding J.T. Miller were revealed, and even though the deal was turned down, New York remain desperate to land Miller.
Despite that, NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has now revealed that trade talks between the two are not yet dead, with the inclusion of one young name potentially getting a deal over the line.
I know that one player the Canucks really love on (the Rangers') roster is Braden Schneider. A couple of years ago when they asked about Miller, (the Canucks) asked for Schneider, and the Rangers said 'no.' And I believe that this happened again this year. They said 'We'd like Schneider to be in the deal' and the Rangers said no. He's got a big future in that organization. While it appears as though New York are adamant that Braden Schneider will not be involved in the deal, Friedman says to not discount it happening, especially if they believe that a Miller trade could turn their entire season around.
We'll see where this goes. There's definitely something to it and there's definitely interest and everybody's trying to sort their way through.
It's unclear which team are most likely to budge at this point, but if both parties are insistent on a move, don't be shocked to see Schneider's name come up even more moving forward.
At this point in time, New York have rejected two plays for Schneider while Vancouver turned down a deal centred around Mika Zibanejad, but with talks ongoing, absolutely anything could happen as both franchises look to shake things up ahead of potential Stanley Cup runs.
