The Kraken placed winger Daniel Sprong on waivers Tuesday with the intention of assigning him to AHL Coachella Valley, the team announced.
Spring is a Dutch hockey player from the Netherlands who moved over the pond to Canada early on in his life.
Seattle picked up the 27-year-old from the Canucks in November in exchange for future considerations. The team had hoped Sprong would be able to recapture his breakout 2021-22 season when he scored 21 goals and 46 points in 66 games, but he has not come close.
Sprong's struggles follow a tough offseason. Despite a respectable 43-point season with the Red Wings last year, Detroit did not qualify him, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.
He remained unsigned for several weeks before signing a one-year deal with Vancouver worth $975K.
Though projected to start as a complementary top-nine player, possibly even with Elias Pettersson, Sprong's time with the Canucks did not pan out.
He managed just three points in nine games while moving between lines centered by Pius Suter and Aatu Raty before his trade back to Seattle.
The return to the Kraken placed Sprong in a setting he knew and was successful in, but his opportunities have been few and far between under head coach Dan Bylsma.
In 10 games since the trade, he's played only four since the beginning of December, posting one goal and an assist. Generally a healthy scratch, Sprong has struggled to get his feet wet in his second go-around in Seattle.
