While most rumors lead analysts and fans to believe that J.T. Miller will be traded out of the Vancouver Canucks organization instead of Elias Pettersson, there are still some rumbles about Pettersson's possible departure from the team via the trade market.
The insider Elliotte Friedman made a massive declaration last night in an intervention on Hockey Night in Canada, saying that an Atlantic Division team, the Buffalo Sabres, could be interested in trading for Pettersson.
Reports indicate that the Vancouver Canucks want Cozens and Byram in a package for Pettersson, though the Canucks could also be interested in other assets.
He added that he believed the Carolina Hurricanes were interested in Pettersson, but with the trade sending Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche to the Hurricanes, could be out of that derby.
However, the Sabres' interest hasn't diminished:
The Sabres have been involved in many trade rumors this season, considering how poorly the team has fared despite all the talent on their lineup and a coaching change last summer.
Indeed, with 41 points in 48 games, the team sits comfortably at the eighth position in their division, 10 points behind the Detroit Red Wings at the seventh place.
Buffalo has many players who could benefit from a change in scenery, such as the 2022 first overall pick Owen Power or offensive defenseman Bowen Byram, who have been struggling in Rasmus Dahlin's shadow, as well as the 23-year-old forward Dylan Cozens, often considered as the best trade asset in the Sabres' organization.
Both teams will be interesting to follow in the weeks leading to the trade deadline.
