The future of Brock Boeser in Vancouver could be in jeopardy, as the Canucks' President Jim Rutherford reviewed his options regarding his next contract.

Set to be a free agent at the end of the 2024-25 NHL season, the longtime Canucks forward Brock Boeser would love to stay in Vancouver, where he spent his whole career.
Earlier this week, he took part in his 500th NHL game and spoke out about how special it is to have been able to do it with the Canucks.
Here's what he said to Sportsnet's Dan Murphy last Thrursday:
It means a lot. I'm a pretty loyal guy so, just to be able to do it with the Canucks means a lot to me, and hopefully, there's a lot more to come."

After a great rookie season in 2017-18, where he scored 29 goals in 60 games, he had never reached the 30-goal mark until last year, when he scored 40 goals and 73 assists in 81 games.
With his contract expiring soon, and the March 7th trade deadline on the horizon, the Canucks President Jim Rutherford will need to make a decision soon.
Either he signs him to what would likely be a long-term contract with a high salary, or he trades him at the deadline to avoid the risk of seeing him walk away from the team with nothing in return next July.
Considering Boeser's great performances in the last playoffs, where he scored 12 points in 12 games, including a hat trick, negotiating for a contract extension seems the safest option.
Jim Rutherford opened up on the team's plans concerning Boeser in a recent interview, saying they're currently evaluating their options:
"We'll deal with that when the time comes. Right now, we're evaluating his situation."

"The key is going to be what that contract looks like, what the term looks like. All those things. It's like all contracts; the player's going to have a different opinion than what the team has. We'll continue to monitor the situation closely."
This season, the 27-year-old forward has 19 points, including eight goals, with a -3 rating in 22 games.
