After suffering three straight defeats, the Utah Hockey Club seems prepared to strike a deal with the Maple Leafs in an attempt to gain momentum.

The Utah Hockey Club has slowed down recently after having a scorching start to their NHL debut season. They have a 4-4-1 record through nine games after three consecutive losses. While a large portion of that is just a simple regression to their pre-expected levels, some of it is also due to injuries, as both John Marino and Sean Durzi were sidelined for extended periods of time despite being expected to return in early 2025.
Eklund of Hockey Buzz has reiterated the belief that the team will be pursuing Timothy Liljegren of the Toronto Maple Leafs as a possible option to salvage their season, even though the team has been connected to numerous solutions on the blue line.
An interesting match for a deal could be Toronto, who have a pair of players ready to come off LTIR and Timothy Liljegren is rumored to have asked for a trade. UHC has a bevy of draft picks and Toronto is light on draft capital, so there appears to be a fit.
Liljegren's already precarious position in the Maple Leafs lineup may come under further scrutiny as Jani Hakanpaa is anticipated to return from Injured Reserve any day now. It makes perfect sense that Liljegren could be acquired through trade given Toronto's depth on their blue line, and the two would be ideal trading partners given Utah's draft capital.
We'll have to wait and see how aggressive Utah is in pursuing Liljegren in the upcoming weeks, but most trades will wait until later in the season if they want to save their blue line after two serious injuries.
