Early in the 2024-25 season, the Pittsburgh Penguins are having a terrible start, and it feels like everyone in the team is under fire because of their 3-6-1 record after 10 games. Nobody more so than goalie Tristan Jarry, whose future is now entirely uncertain due to his recent demotion to the AHL by the team.
There isn't much the Penguins can do to break Jarry's five-year contract, which pays him more than $5 million a year and has three years left after the 2024-2025 season. Kyle Dubas is facing criticism from an unexpected source for giving the 29-year-old goalie that contract, which has started to look worse and worse.
It's time for the Penguins to move on from Jarry, according to Dubas' grandmother, who shockingly criticized him on social media for signing that contract. This seems to be the general consensus among team supporters.
There may not be much the team can do to salvage the deal, which is unfortunate for Dubas, his family, and Penguins supporters, considering Jarry has recorded a 5.47 GAA and a .836 save percentage through three games. Few teams in the NHL would even consider taking that on, and if they did, Pittsburgh would have to give up assets, which would put them in a difficult position. The contract has more than three years left on it.
