The Toronto Maple Leafs have already signed one veteran goaltender earlier this offseason, but it looks like they have added another intriguing player in Jon Gillies through a PTO.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were known for their ups and downs in goaltending the previous season, but in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Joseph Woll rose to the occasion and cemented his position as the team's top player despite the team's defeat. They solidified that position this off-season when they signed Anthony Stolarz to serve as the team's backup for 2024-2025 as they attempt to make a serious run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The native of Concord, New Hampshire, has played in the minor leagues for the majority of his professional career. His most notable National Hockey League stint occurred in 2021-2022 with the New Jersey Devils. He played in 19 games that year, going 3-10-1 with a 3.76 GAA and.885 SV%.
The Calgary Flames selected Gillies with the 75th pick overall in the third round of the 2012 NHL Draft. For a few years, he was among the best goaltending prospects, but the NHL never saw him develop his skills. The now-30-year-old was traded around the league, spending time with the Arizona Coyotes and St. Louis Blues.
Gillies will have a difficult time breaking into Toronto's NHL roster because Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Woll are already committed for the upcoming campaign. However, all eyes will be watching him as training camp begins.
