Although Russian KHL players are renowned for their strength and toughness, one of their players severely crashed head-first into the boards and had to be stretchered off the ice.

At all ice levels, hockey is an extremely fast and dangerous sport. The players are constantly at risk of suffering severe injuries due to the game's high speed. Just now, Gleb Kuzmin crashed headfirst into the boards during a terrifying moment during a KHL game.

Darren Dietz of Avangard Omsk struck Gleb Kuzmin of UFA Salavat Yulaev hard today, causing scary scenes in the KHL. In what had been a hotly contested match, the incident left fans in attendance stunned; details regarding the 27-year-old's condition were not immediately available. After the game, Darren Dietz did, as many do, send Kuzmin his best wishes in the hopes that he recovers quickly and gets back on the ice.

Viktor Kozlov, his head coach, attested to the severity of the injury. We are still unaware of its complete scope.

"Now it has been reported that things are very serious there. A very big loss for us."

As more details about Kuzmin's condition become available, we'll be sure to keep you informed.

For those who don't know, Kuzmin is 27 years old and has played in both the KHL and the farm system of his current team his entire career. He has remained devoted to the franchise, and the fans undoubtedly feel a particular bond with him. It's just awful to witness something like this.

In the meantime, we're hoping that Gleb Kuzmin is making a full recovery from this terrible and frightening experience.
