Troubling announcement for Leafs fans regarding Nazem Kadri
The Nazem Kadri situation with the Calgary Flames initially seemed to present a significant opportunity for the Maple Leafs, but it now appears that the possibility of his return to Toronto may be officially off the table.
Recently, it appeared that Kadri was considering waiving his no-movement clause to facilitate a trade from the Flames to the Leafs, reuniting him with some of his former teammates.
The Maple Leafs are searching for a centerman, but it seems they will need to look elsewhere, as Kadri now appears uninterested in waiving his no-movement clause to join Toronto.
Do you think the Flames will look to move Nazem Kadri? TSN Calgary Bureau Chief @SalimValji joins @JayOnraitto discuss.
Leafs fans were disappointed when Kadri left a few years ago and would eagerly welcome him back. However, this reunion appears to be just a dream, as the trade seems unlikely. One major obstacle is Kadri's salary.
He is owed $7 million per year for the next five seasons, and the Leafs don't have the cap space to accommodate this unless they consider trading Marner, who has been the subject of recent rumors.
Barry Trotz tells @JaredStillman there's truth to the rumors of Preds being in on some big names on trade market.
He mentions a "prominent player in Toronto" as "people trying to connect dots" but also lists reasons why someone like Mitch Marner would want to come to NSH. Leafs fans may have to accept that Kadri returning to their blue and white uniform is a distant dream, as it seems more unlikely with each passing day.
