Sabres Star Forward Dylan Cozens Linked to Canadian Team, per Pierre LeBrun
The Buffalo Sabres are bottom feeders this season once again, and changes are imminent, which could involve Dylan Cozens, as Pierre LeBrun recently reported.
According to Pierre LeBrun of 'The Athletic', there is a Canadian team has expressed interest in 23-year-old Buffalo Sabres center Dylan Cozens. At 6-foot-3, he oozes size but also skill, and he carries a $7.1 million cap hit through 2029-30.
He hasn't really had a great season thus far with just 10 goals and 22 points in 44 games, but he did have a breakout 2022-23 season, one where he scored 31 goals and added 37 assists, which established him as a top-six center.
The Calgary Flames would love Dylan Cozens on their roster
Cozens would be a fantastic fit with the Flames, who are a team that have been looking to get their hands on a young right-shot forward under 25, and he would definitely be right up there on their priority list.
Obviously, every team is looking for quality up the middle, and the Flames are definitely not alone in their pursuit of him. As per LeBrun, he had mentioned earlier this season that the Detroit Red Wings did call once on Cozens.
But the Sabres are really asking for a very expensive price, and if there's a team with any desire to acquire Cozens, they will more than likely need to get rid of a first-round pick in either of the next two or three drafts or probably another high-end asset.
But Rasmus Andersson is clearly untouchable, Flames GM Craig Conroy has said. But adding Cozens can truly cure some of those problems for Calgary, who sit 27th in goals per game, which is near dead last in the league.
The Flames remain in the playoff hunt, but they do seem more focused on reworking a roster in need of more youth infused within it.
The Flames have plenty of draft assets and enough cap space to make a competitive offer to Cozens, locking in a long-term solution up front.
