It's been an underwhelming season for Taylor Hall with the Chicago Blackhawks. At the bottom of the overall NHL standings, he doesn't know where his future is.
The 33-year-old winger is on the last season of his four-year, $24 million contract and does come with a 10-team no-trade list. He knows he could be on the move soon as the trade deadline approaches on Mar. 7.
While Hall has conveyed an interest in staying in Chicago, the chances of him getting an extension from the Blackhawks are low. For this reason, he presently stands at No. 17 on the 'TFP Trade Watch List', per NHL insider David Pagnotta.
The Chicago Blackhawks still do possess two salary retention slots and can retain up to half of Hall's $6 million cap hit to facilitate a trade. In such a case, he should bring back at least a second or third-round draft pick.
Several contenders try to acquire much-needed depth scoring, and with a move that could allow Hall to contribute to a playoff contender, the front-runner teams are likely the Pittsburgh Penguins, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Vancouver Canucks.
Hall brings the speed, offensive skill, and playmaking ability to complement core stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Placing him on the wing provides them with more depth in their top six and a punchier scoring ability that has an improved transition aspect, a true must for a playoff push.
Hall would bring speed and scoring to the Vegas Golden Knights, fitting perfectly with their aggressive high-scoring offense style.
A good fit in their top six, playoff experience adds wisdom to their roster, already deep enough to be talking championship wins over and over again.
Adding Hall to the Canucks lineup would add much-needed speed and scoring punch that would supplement the star powers of Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller. The experience would likely take them further into the playoffs.
To date, Hall has amassed eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in 43 games.
