Edmonton Oilers Linked to 6-foot-4 Central Division Defenseman, per Frank Seravalli
At this point, it's no secret that the Edmonton Oilers are in need of a huge upgrade on the blue line, and now Connor Murphy is a name their sights are set on.
The Edmonton Oilers are off to a great start in 2024/25, and with the team looking to go one step further than they did a year ago, they're exploring all avenues to make this team even better than they were last season.
While there could be major improvements made up front, it's clear that the blue line is their biggest area of weakness, with the team expected to make some huge additions at some point this season.
Now, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has linked them to yet another intriguing option, naming Chicago Blackhawks veteran Connor Murphy as a genuine candidate for the Oilers to explore adding, with the 31-year old veteran potentially bringing his 700+ games of NHL experience to Oil Country.
With the Blackhawks not set to compete for a post-season spot in 2024/25 or likely in the next 1-2 potentially even 3 years, it makes sense for them to explore getting future assets back in return for their veterans, with Murphy the perfect candidate.
The 31-year old has been solid this season, tallying 13 points in 38 games played, and with just a -4 differential on one of the worst teams in the entire NHL, it's safe to say that he could be a genuine difference maker for a contender.
On top of that, Murphy has just one year left on his current deal after 2024/25, carrying a cap hit of $4.4 million, and if the Oilers are serious about making a Stanley Cup run and don't want to shell out to get a player like Rasmus Andersson, Murphy is a fantastic and likely much cheaper option.
