Elliotte Friedman Reveals Two-Time Stanley Cup Champion Demands Trade
The Seattle Kraken certainly aren't competing for a Stanley Cup in 2024/25, so to no one's surprise, it appears one of their top veterans has now requested a trade.
After making the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2022/23, many saw the future of the Seattle Kraken as very bright, and in the two summers since then, they've made some huge additions in free agency.
Those pickups include Andre Burakovsky, Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour, but unfortunately they're not a team to be reckoned with this season, and will likely miss the post-season for the second straight year.
Now, that could lead to a huge change, and in a report from Elliotte Friedman, it appears that much like Will Borgen, Burakovsky wants out, with the NHL's top Insider suggesting that he has asked for a trade.
The 29-year old was starring with the Colorado Avalanche when he was picked up by Seattle, but after tallying 61 points in his final season with the Avs, he has posted just 71 points in two and a half seasons with the Kraken thus far.
That regression is partly due to injury, as he has played in just 49 games a year over his first two seasons with the team, and given that he can still be very productive, it's no surprise that he wants to be traded to a team likely to compete for a Stanley Cup.
Burakovsky's deal is a very moveable one too, as the 29-year old has two years remaining on his deal after this one, and with just a $5.5 million cap hit per season, it's very likely that there will be immense interest in him.
Notably, Burakovsky is a two-time Stanley Cup champion, winning with his formers teams, the Washington Capitals in 2018 and the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.
With teams like Winnipeg, Colorado, Edmonton, Toronto and many others all looking for good depth on the wing ahead of potential Stanley Cup pushes, if the team want to give in to Burakovsky's demands, don't be shocked to see him moved ahead of the March 7th trade deadline.
