The Sharks are once again one of the worst teams in the NHL as we all expected this season.
As such they will likely be sellers at the trade deadline. Now we know a couple of names that are starting to make the rounds on the rumor mill.
NHL insider David Pagnotta has revealed that two Sharks defenseman, Mario Ferraro, and Cody Ceci, are becoming hot commodities.
The NHL insider noted that two western Canadian teams, the Canucks and Oilers, are both interested in Sharks veteran defenseman Cody Ceci.
Pagnotta has also linked Ferraro to the Vancouver Canucks, so it seems fairly likely that we could see a trade within the Pacific division at some point this year.
That being said, we know that Ferraro has garnered interest from other teams in the past.
Last year, the Toronto Maple Leafs were supposedly interested in the Sharks veteran blueliner, but they ultimately decided to go with other moves.
This summer, Brad Treliving signed Chris Tanev to a four-year deal filling that hole on the blueline, so the Leafs probably will not be one of the teams in on Ferraro this time around.
That just leaves the Oilers and Canucks as teams that we know are interested.
It would certainly be interesting to see a bidding war between those two teams emerge, especially considering the fact that Sharks general manager Mike Grier has gone on the record saying that the price for Ferraro will be high.
Perhaps this could mean that one of the teams will end up settling for Ceci instead.
The Oilers are already familiar with his game as they were the team who traded him to the Sharks this summer.
Whether or not a reunion is in the cards remains to be seen, but it certainly should not be counted out.
