The new deal is valued at $1.18M annually, as stated in the team's official press release. This extension ensures Dewar and the Leafs will avoid arbitration proceedings. Dewar was acquired from the Minnesota Wild in March in exchange for prospect forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov and a 2026 fourth-round pick.
Dewar, 25, recorded 11 goals, 8 assists, and 19 points across 74 games with Minnesota and Toronto during the 2023-24 NHL season. He also tallied an assist in 6 playoff games for the Leafs.
Following shoulder surgery at the end of the 2023-24 season, Dewar is expected to recover and be ready for the Leafs' training camp.
Drafted in the third round (92nd overall) by the Minnesota Wild in the 2018 NHL Draft, Dewar made his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season. After three seasons with the Wild, he was traded to Toronto. To date, Dewar has accumulated 19 goals, 24 assists, and 43 points in 190 NHL games.
