While the Maple Leafs have focused on bolstering their defense this summer, they may now be eyeing a former Cup winner under Craig Berube to address their forward issues.

This summer, the Toronto Maple Leafs have added significant talent to their blue line, but their forward group, which faltered in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, has seen minimal changes.
Now, an intriguing possibility has emerged from Leafs writer Michael Augello, who suggests a potential reunion with Stanley Cup winner Sammy Blais under Head Coach Craig Berube.
«Sammy Blais played for Berube with the Blues on the 2019 Cup winner as a fourth-line role player,» Augello wrote. «Only 28, the 6'2», 206 lb. winger is all sandpaper and not much skill.»
While Ryan Reaves currently fills a similar role on paper, his performance in the 2023/24 season indicated a decline, making Blaisa cost-effective upgradea potentially valuable addition to the fourth line.

Blais was instrumental for the St. Louis Blues during their 2019 Stanley Cup run under Craig Berube, contributing physical play despite only registering 4 points in 32 games.
Since returning to St. Louis two years ago, Blais has remained a solid player. At 28, he still has plenty of energy left, and on a PTO, it would be worthwhile for the Maple Leafs to consider a player familiar to their new Head Coach.
