Toronto Maple Leafs captain, John Tavares has yet to initiate discussions regarding a contract extension with general manager Brad Treliving as per reports.

In an article on The Athletic, insider Pierre LeBrun disclosed that there have been no talks between John Tavares and the Maple Leafs concerning his future with the team.
With his current seven year $11 million AAV contract set to expire after the season, Tavares cannot negotiate an extension until July 1st when he enters the final year of his deal.
Additionally LeBrun shared an update on Tavares mentioning that he is unwilling to waive his no movement clause to switch teams. This suggests that he may be willing to accept a reduced salary to remain in Toronto.
According to LeBruns statement;
"There's been no conversation between them and John Tavares' camp, led by agent Pat Brisson. But either way, should the Leafs ever ask, Tavares — a 2025 UFA with a full no-move clause — doesn't want to waive to go anywhere."

It's still a bit premature to be concerned about Tavares' future in Toronto at this stage. It wouldn't be unexpected for him to strike a deal either in the upcoming season or during the summer of 2025.
Do you reckon John Tavares might ink a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the season or perhaps in the summer of 2025?
