Rickard Rakell is one player that the Penguins could try to move from. After his lack-luster season that was hampered by injuries and long scoreless periods of play (12 straight games and 18 straight games during the season with a point), Rakell could also be looking for a fresh start.
With a full off-season to rehab his injuries coming off of a 70 games season with 37 points, these teams could be options for the Penguins to move Rakell to.
Chicago Blackhawks
Topping the list are the Blackhawks. The Hawks could have cap room for Rakell, as they are currently a young team. Youth is on the top of Dubas' list to obtain.
Rakell is a player who can help Connor Bedard starting his second year in the NHL. He plays smart hockey and could build that rapport with Bedard as his centerman.
Buffalo Sabres
Can a veteran scorer help the Sabres to finally make the playoffs next year? With expiring contracts for Viktor Olofsson and Tyson Jost, that could make room for top six forward.
A deal could be made, as the Sabres hold some young D-men that the Pens are looking to add to their roster this off-season.
Calgary Flames
Although changes are slim that a deal would be made with Calgary, who are in a similar situation as the Penguins, they do have a couple of big-name contracts and might try to take a swing at the playoffs for them.
Have a possible 20-30 goal scorer when healthy could help them make that move into the post-season.
Wherever the Penguins can move Rakell, it would be beneficial as they have limited options elsewhere on the roster with other players having bulky contracts. We will see what types of moves the Penguins make soon as we continue to move forward to July 1st.
