On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins reacquired Pierre-Olivier Joseph from the St. Louis Blues, as the team have clearly looked at their recent momentum as an opportunity to push for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
In return, the Blues will be getting future considerations, but perhaps the biggest story of all is the breaking up of brothers Mathieu and Pierre-Olivier, who were playing together for the first time in their entire lives.
Earlier in the season, the two shared an incredibly emotional moment together, as they combined for a goal for the first time in their lives, with their parents going through all of the emotions in the crowd.
Now, the two will no longer be playing together, with Mathieu sharing an emotional goodbye to his brother on social media after the shocking trade that took place on Wednesday.
Given that the two never played on the same team growing up, the early parts of the 2024/25 must have been a dream for the Quebec natives, but unknowingly, they've shared the ice together for the last time for the near future.
Of course things could change in the coming years, but for now they'll go back to being opponents, and we all know what kind of trouble the two get into when they are wearing opposing jerseys.
Ultimately though, the NHL like all sports remains a business, and the Blues believed it to be the best possible move to trade P-O to the Penguins, so while it's a very emotional situation, the team made the move with confidence as they look to push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
